Volunteer Field Days make a difference
31 October 2024
Seven Bibbulmun Track locations were improved this year by the work of BTF volunteers at our regular maintenance ‘Field Days’.
These days are a collaborative effort. They bring together the allocated Sectional volunteers for each DBCA District – with one lucky volunteer team ‘hosting’ and receiving the benefit of many willing hands! They are coordinated by BTF Maintenance Manager Andrew Chiswell and Volunteer Manager Helen Grimm; assisted by members of our maintenance Support volunteer team; and supported by local District officers from the Department.
Welcome briefing, on a cool forest morning at Schafer CS
The crew were happy with work achieved at the Frankland CS Field Day
While productive work is the main task of the day, Field Days are a great opportunity for connection with other maintenance volunteers, BTF staff and DBCA officers. Track maintenance techniques can be discussed, and questions answered.
DBCA Blackwood District officer, Stelle Evangelista, came to Golden Valley Tree Park
Field Day training – erosion control measures
Sprucing up the campsites and other chosen locations is very satisfying! Timber preservation is usually top of the list; other tasks depend on the needs of the location.
This year, Field Days were held at:
- Muttonbird campsite and Track from Muttonbird Road
- Frankland campsite
- Mount Dale campsite
- Schafer campsite
- Golden Valley Tree Park
- Nerang campsite
- Harris Dam campsite
