Support Volunteers on the South Coast

Brushcutters and hedge trimmers were wielded to clear overgrown track sections and return them to their normal width, necessary for trail durability and walker amenity.

Another important task was the assessment of erosion control and track stabilisation constructed by the SVs in 2020 and 2022.  Overall the stabilisation was found to be doing its job.  Where needed sand was topped up in the trackpads.  Other trial stabilisation methods used at selected locations were working well.

Two wind fence installations, which are site-specific erosion control structures, were also inspected and supplemented where needed.  The three wind fences 5km west of Parry Beach are working very effectively as seen by the establishment of shrubs and seasonal flowers around the fences and adjacent dune.

Finally a section of eroded track with broken steps near Conspicuous Beach was assessed and measured for future stabilisation.

The team enjoyed ideal weather as did the many End-to-End walkers who stopped to talk, complimenting the Foundation’s volunteers on the high standard of maintenance along the Track.
