Get Lost With Steve-29 Sep 2024

Department:

Do you have little or no direction in your life? Do you really know how to use a compass? How well can you read a map?

Steve will guide you through a series of practical and theoretical exercises on and off the Track near in Mundaring. Over the course of the day we walk around 7km on and off tracks.

Get Lost with Steve and you will have fun learning and perfecting basic map reading and compass skills.

That's right, we teach you how to navigate without tech!

Steve is a great teacher and made sure we were keeping up with his lessons. He makes me laugh and did not make me feel silly if I didn't understand straight away - Jane

The best part of booking an event with us is that all profits go back to the maintenance of the Bibbulmun Track - you should be proud!

You will need your own navigation compass (advice provided in the Attendee Info if you don't have one). For the next level up in navigation, see the Get Found With Steve (usually held around June/July each year).

Such a course should be a pre-requisite for individuals attempting the Track. - Ken

This was such a comprehensive and well organised event - Sonja

A well run event, where there was no real danger of getting lost thanks to the unobtrusive help of Steve and the volunteers. We were given enough latitude to figure things out for ourselves, and that provided for a sense of accomplishment - Beverley

Great course, knowledgeable instructors. I enjoyed the day and now have more confidence of heading into the bush with a map and compass - Vince

Pitched at just the right level to somehow accommodate everyone who was there with varying skills. Incredibly well organised down to the last pencil. Clear explanations, excellent practice exercises carefully graded to have increasing complexity. Individual help when we ran into difficulties. Fun. Warm sense of humour, welcoming and very experienced. Wonderful, don't change anything! Kirsty (event participant)

The whole course was efficiently and professionally run, without losing a relaxing feel. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day, met many new friends and I feel confident in the use of a compass. Thank you all for a wonderful day! Barry and Ruth

Just a brilliant fun day with Steve teaching us theory then having us outside to practice in the bush was so thrilling to find our given target and confidence gaining. Thank you - Christine

Keep up the good work guys I have not ever been to an organised BTF event that wasn't well worth the doing and I would and do recommend it to people I know - Glen

I choose to hike solo and my main fear is getting lost, I even felt anxious on the way to the seminar as I hadn't been there before, it was one of the volunteers that instantly made me feel relaxed and said "Well you passed the first step" which I chuckled at and felt welcomed. There was a moment when I couldn't understand how to do a bearing and almost gave up, unknowingly to Steve because of his patience explaining how do work a bearing out I felt more confident, hence I finished the day. I totally enjoyed the day and now that I know how to read a map and use a compass. In my opinion if people want to learn how to read a map and use a compass this course is the way to go.
