Your Story or Advice for Others
General CommentsMy family and I arrived in WA from South Africa in 2009. I have always been an active hiker with a love for mountains, but the Bibbulmun Track has provided me with new perspectives on landscape. I have also become very fond of the bush and that of the south-west of WA in particular. My first walk on the track was on 15 October 2011, and I have loved every one of my many walks since then.
Your Best Equipment
I continued to rely on my Backpacker Thar rucksack purchased back in the mid-1980's, and recently declared I wouldn't trade it for anything. It has supported me greatly over the years!
Your Worst Equipment
I still haven't been able to figure out a pillow solution that really works for me. I will continue to search.
Advice for Others
The track brings one so much pleasure and satisfaction, so don't hesitate to get out there and experience it. If wondering whether to give it a go, start with a day walk. It is bound to grow on you, and before you know it you will be keen to take on more and more.
Trip Details
How you completed the Bibbulmun Track:- In sections
- Who did you complete the Track with? Solo (primarily)
- Was undertaking your hike the PRIMARY/MAIN purpose of your TRAVEL from where you currently live? No
Your Experience
The diversity of environment makes it difficult to identify a favourite section. However, my final section, from Northcliffe to Walpole, stands out for its remoteness, openness, and abundance of water in terms of inland water bodies and water on the track. This made for a very different walking experience which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Highlight of your trip
There have been many highlights as measured by factors such as challenging sections of the track, camaraderie and friendships formed, the many laughs along the way, diversity of landscapes, and the flora and fauna. A lot of my walking on the track has been done with others, but a highlight was walking solo from Northcliffe to Walpole, but enjoying the company of others at the campsites each night.
