• None of the towns made it easy to correctly dispose of spent gas cylinders. Gas cylinder disposals at info centres that are picked up by council would be great.

Your Story or Advice for Others

General Comments
Words cannot describe the personal value this hike has imparted to me. Being my first experience of the western coast of Australia, I was completely blown-away by the differences to the east coast. The most impressive aspect of the hike were the huge karri and tingle trees - nothing like this on the east coast!

Your Best Equipment
Small piece of closed-cell foam to sit on. Rocks and logs became comfortable seats and kept the seat of my pants dry in the wet.

Your Worst Equipment
Too many extra clothes. All but the bare essentials got mailed home.

Advice for Others
If you are lean or normal weight and don't want to loose weight during the hike, put on about 5 extra kilos of weight for the hike. Both myself and my partner put on +5Kg and lost it again. We carried a lot of food, snacks and ate like kings in the towns; we still lost weight!

Your Experience

• Availability of information: Excellent - The section maps are brilliant! The guidebooks are little more than trail notes, which are outdated in a lot of cases. I wouldn't purchase them again.
• Amount of Wildlife Encountered: Great - Several adrenaline-pumping encounters with large snakes. At no stage did I doubt my safety though. The snakes were not aggressive.

Favourite Section
Karri forests before and after Donnely River and the Tingle forests around Walpole.

Highlight of your trip
The first section of coastline for the hike around Rame Head. Jaw-dropping beauty and perfect hiking conditions.
