Your Story or Advice for Others
General CommentsAn amazing adventure meeting great people on a world class track with varied environments. Don’t overthink the preparations - look at it as a series of 5 to 8 day walks. Don’t rush just enjoy - there is so much to see.
Your Best Equipment
Light weight air mattress. My Salomon walking shoes (I had only ever walked in leather boots for 40 years). Sheepskin pads on my partners rucksack to ease pressure on her shoulders. My partner loved her toe socks.
Your Worst Equipment
Didn’t have anything we didn’t need to carry although we never used our little trowel.
Advice for Others
Enjoy and savour the experience and take what you need - don’t listen too much to others when it comes to weight. I carried 20kg + on a couple of sections (Kalamunda to Dwellingup and Balingup to Pemberton ) because I wanted to carry extra food including a 1kg fruitcake. We didn’t use any food drops and I’m not sure they are necessary. We did send some clothes and maps/guidebooks ahead but not sure that was necessary as I carried plenty spare shirts, underwear and socks. Take care of your feet - my partner is a GP and she ran a foot clinic for several days for walkers at the start who got blisters, bruised toes and various foot related aches.
