Group Notification
Any groups with eight or more members, that are staying overnight on the Bibbulmun Track are requested to complete a Group Notification (previously known as the Notice of Intent or NOI). This information assists other walkers with their planning and it helps manage and record group usage. Campsites cannot be booked.
Group size is set at a maximum of 17 people, including leaders. There are four specific group campsites on the Bibbulmun Track for up to 30 people (Alyi-wa Miya Group Campsite near Monadnocks, Mt Cooke group site, Arcadia and Lyall’s Mill). These numbers have been set to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the campsites, facilities and the surrounding environment. Please note that the Monadnocks campsite and the Mt Cooke general use campsite are generally not available for Group Notifications.
Please note that Bibbulmun Track Campsites are only for use by walkers using the Bibbulmun Track.
Before submitting a notification, please read the Expedition Planning and General Conditions.

Why is notification needed?
The Group Notification provides Parks and Wildlife Services with information regarding your planned group activity, to help sustain the biodiversity and conservation values of the diverse environments the tracks and trails traverse. The Group Notification also assists in considering the needs and enjoyment of other Track users by preventing overcrowding in campsites and/or potential clashes of expedition dates of groups.
Campsites on the Bibbulmun Track cannot be booked. Therefore, the Group Notification is not a booking system.
While this information remains confidential, it may be used in emergency situations, such as a bushfire.
Overnight walks
If you are intending to conduct an organised, educational or leisure activity of one night or more on Parks and Wildlife Service managed tracks or trails, notifications should be received at least four weeks prior to the activity being conducted.
The Foundation and Parks and Wildlife thank all groups who complete a Group Notification, it is very much appreciated.
Early notification will allow you to be alerted to:
- possible problematic Track conditions (though groups are responsible for keeping themselves up to date) and
- other groups already using the same campsites (so you can change your itinerary).
It will also:
- give the Foundation enough time to formally reply to your notification and
- give individual walkers time if they wish to adjust their plans if needed.
Note that for overnight stays at the Bibbulmun Track campsites,
- total group size should not exceed 17 persons (including leaders) and all members should carry tents.
- at the group campsites however, Alyi-wa Miya Group Campsite, Mt Cooke group campsite, Lyall’s Mill and Arcadia campsites on the Bibbulmun Wellington Spur Trail, the maximum group size is 30. There is no sleeping shelter, so tents are essential.
This number has been set to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the Track, campsites, facilities and the surrounding environment.
Remember that groups of eight or more cannot occupy a sleeping shelter at a Bibbulmun Track campsite until after 6pm. Check out the Code of the Campsite.
Day walks
Notifications are not needed for day walks.
