Volunteers complete Murray River realignment
Last Wednesday afternoon, while finishing the final section from Dookanelly Campsite to Bilya Djena Bidi the Support Volunteer team was thrilled to welcome the first walker.
Route finding around the steep ridge within this final section was difficult. Steep rocky terrain to the north and old-growth forest – which we had to stay clear of – in the south meant that the most feasible path was across the slope and directly up the ridge with its underlying granite base. That lead north to a small creek then up and across a glorious saddle before descending gently to Dookanelly.
This realignment, including the successful planning, approvals and execution is a clear demonstration of the wide skills enjoyed by the Foundation’s Support Volunteers who work very closely with DBCA’s Parks and Wildlife staff at office and District level to deliver a world-class trail.
