Track Towns and Supplies
- Did you have any issues finding food/supplies? Yes
- Food supplies are one of the heaviest items you will carry so source dehydrated, high in energy meals. About 700 grams per day should nett you about 2,400 calories. Even then, be prepared to lose a little personal weight along the way.
Your Story or Advice for Others
General CommentsWhile this was one of the more difficult challenges I've undertaken it was, far and away, the most rewarding. My only regret is not having made the effort years ago.
Your Best Equipment
My Salomon Quest 4 GTX boots. 1,200 km plus, zero blisters, waterproof and solid as a rock all the way.
Your Worst Equipment
Trekking poles. What a waste of money. Not suitable for much of the track down South and always getting in the way when you need hands free. Ditched mine 3 days into the trek and never felt the need to want them again.
Advice for Others
Work hard to keep your packweight to a minimum and work on the premise that, if in doubt leave it out. Just a saving of 1kg overall is significant when it's on your back for 20km or more a day.

Your Experience

Highlight of your trip
Stunning south coastal views, the short but spectacular section from Peaceful Bay to Rame head and my 64th birthday spent at the delightful Schafer campsite on a glorious sunny day.
