Sixteen enthusiastic volunteers recently descended on Waalegh Campsite for a well-earned spruce up as part of a community field day.

Both passionate orchid hunters, they had good reason for their timing. Ian’s research revealed that the southwest of Western Australia was home to around 400 species of orchids, many of which would be in bloom just as they planned to walk.

This year’s winning team—Heart of the South—was made up of seasoned ultra-endurance athletes Sue, Nick, and Bianca, who combined determination, teamwork, and a few unexpected adventures to claim first place.

A 20km return walk from near Mt Dale to Beraking Campsite for fit and experienced walkers only.
